Day 28

Off to Parma today. While we found that this quiet city wasn't necessarily the most happening place in the world, there was certainly something happening here: good food. This is the city that is home to Parmigiano cheese, prosciutto di Parma, and so much more. If anything, you can be guaranteed a good meal in this town. We had lunch at Gallo d'Oro (Borgo della Salina, 3, Parma) at the recommendation of a friend from Wesleyan. This place was so good - exactly what you want an Italian trattoria to be. It was decorated with vintage posters, clocks, and, well, prosciutto hanging from the ceiling. I could eat at a place like this every day. Here is a photo of the inside:

Since we were in Parma, we had to try to prosciutto. Here it is, thinly sliced and oh-so-good, along with a nice bread basket.

For the meal, I got a plate with three types of tortelloni. One was filled with pumpkin, one with spinach and ricotta, and one with arugula and prosciutto. These were wonderful - creamy fillings in a fresh pasta shell. Tortelloni, which are essentially just pasta dumplings like ravioli, have to be one of my favorite things in the world, and these were delicious.

And sprinkled on the pasta, what else would we eat in Parma than Parmigiano cheese. This was the best parmigiano we have had so far - salty and buttery. The best part is that it came in, what we named, a parmigiano house. I hope to one day live in a parmigiano house.

For dinner, Leah made some amazing Piadina Supremes. And these were supreme. A tortilla filled with arugula, cheese, onions and peppers and topped with a fried egg. Oh yeah.
