Day 58

For breakfast, we ate at the hotel. Since it was under rennovation, the hotel brought us breakfast in bed. Can't beat that.

For lunch today after visiting the ruins at Pompei, ECCo took us to this big restaurant again. The pasta was good, with a light tomato sauce and some type of cheese.

For a snack before the "below ground" tour of Naples, we picked up one of these pastries (the one on top), which are light and flaky and filled with cream - yum!

Finally, for dinner a big group of us went to dinner at a restaurant by the water that was recommended by Alessanra's cousin. It was great, with no shortage of delectable things to eat. They asked us if they should just bring a selection of antipasti, and we said ok. Well, they brought about 3 meals worth of antipasti, but it was all so good that we had to eat it. There were these giant balls of mozzarella (about the size of a small football) with tomato, plates of fried foods including fired zucchini, fried mozzarella, and more, big plates of tomato bruschetta and grilled bread. I love this Italian mentality of "too much food is the right amount of food."

While I didn't order this, I thought I would show a picture of Mark's pizza just to show more pizza from Naples. Though this was not at the level of last night (where I seriously considered going back to tonight), the dough was still incredibly flavorful and well done - why is it just here that they do it so well?

I was so full by dinner that I could hardly eat. I split this seafood salad with someone that had octopus, squid and shrimp.
