For Easter, a very important holiday here in Italy, I went to Florence with some people. They have a huge parade with people dressed in Renaissance costumes and a fireworks display in front of the Duomo. Here are some white oxen carrying a religious house-thing which during the fireworks display is lit on fire (there were so many people I couldn't see the house be lit on fire).
For lunch, I of course tried to go to the Mercato Centrale to Nerbone for my favorite sandwich ever, but unfortunately it was closed for Easter Sunday. Instead, we went to another nearby sandwich restaurant Palle d'Oro (Via Sant'Antonino, 43-45) where I had the bollito sandwich, the same boiled meat sandwich on bread dipped in the boiling liquid with salsa verde and salsa piccante. It was a good sandwich, but wasn't even on the same level as Nerbone. The meat was not as well cooked, the sauces were chunky and not very flavorful, though the bread was exactly the same. Overall, a good sandwich, but nowhere near Nerbone's.
For dinner, Sarah organized a wonderful Easter dinner. We had chicken, roasted potatoes and carrots, corn salad, and Rita's orange and fennel salad. Everything was delicious!
For dessert, there were two types of lemon bars (one traditional and one with rosemary) and brownies. Yummm.
